The prefecture of the Eastern Administrative District communicated that Olympic training medical centre will be constructed on the territory of former Cherkizovsky market. Cherkizovsky market was one of the biggest clothing markets of the capital. According to several sources the total area of the market was 234 hectares.
The market was situated between the Schelkovskoye and Izmailovskoye shosse and Sirenevy Boulevard. The market was closed July 29th, 2009 due to the offence of sanitary and fire regulations. Initially the authorities were planning to construct residential buildings or a public park on this territory.
The authorities made a preliminary decision to build Olympic training medical centre on the base of Russian State Sport University. According to the prefect of the Eastern Administrative District Mr. Evstikheev the remaining part of the territory is to be reconstructed to the public centre of sport recreational purpose. Moreover, it’s decided to build of two kindergartens and a school in the area of Izmailovsky thoroughfare .
“The closing of Cherkizovsky market for us and first and for most for the residents is very favorable event as we got rid of traffic jams in Izmailovskoye and Schelkovskoye shosse. The situation on this territory to a considerable degree is soothing”, - added Mr. Evstikheev.
